Although native to the tropical regions in the Americas, there are also feral populations of the red-lored parrots in California. They require a varied diet that includes fruits, nuts, and seeds. While it is difficult to distinguish male and female adults as they have the same plumage, juveniles have less yellow and red colorations and have dark irises.

Images were captured from my front yard, with the parrot feeding in my neighbor’s tree across the street.
